The Pioneers statue celebrates the canal builders who founded Ellesmere Port and was cast in bronze by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent.

Ellesmere Port's past is rooted in the canal network that sprang up in Britain in the 17th and 18th Centuries, and in the work of one man - the great engineer Thomas Telford.
Based in the warehouses Telford built on what was then the bank of the River Mersey - the Manchester Ship Canal came later - National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port, pays tribute to Ellesmere Port's canal past.
It boasts the world's largest collection of traditional canal boats and tells the stories of the waterways, their industry and people, which are brought to life in the dock workers' cottages and original waterside buildings.
Take you imagination out for the day and enjoy 10 indoor exhibitions. There is wheelchair access to all public areas, a cafÉ, shop, boat trips, and free parking.
