
The Pioneers statue celebrates the canal builders who founded Ellesmere Port and was cast in bronze by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent.

A by-election was held in Ellesmere Port's Rossmore ward following the recent death of Cllr Ivor Jones. The results were as follows:
There was a 19.98% turnout and the votes were:
Maurice Brookes (English Democrats) 60
Mike English (Local Conservatives) 325
Graham Handley (Liberal Democrats) 38
Sue Pugh (Labour) 504(Elected)
The make up of the council is now:
Conservative 17
Labour 23
Liberal Democrat 2
Vacancy 1
Cllr Ivor Jones, a Labour councillor, had represented the Rossmore ward since May 2003 and was re-elected in May 2007. He died on July 19 2007.
