Licensing Act 2003 in Ellesmere Port and Neston

Local authorities now deal with licensed premises, taking over responsibility from the Magistrates Courts, and personal licences.

The premises that now need to be licensed are:

Those that sell alcohol (such as pubs, hotels, off licences, restaurants, supermarkets etc);
Those that provide regulated entertainment (such as plays, indoor sporting events, live music, films, dancing etc);
Premises that provide late night refreshment after 11 pm (such as takeaways, restaurants, petrol stations etc).
Clubs are also able to apply for a similar club premises certificate.

The Licensing Authority has produced a ' Statement of Licensing Policy' that in compliance with the Act, is reviewed every three years. The policy helps applicants and all interested parties gain an understanding of how the Licensing Authority will deal with applications. For the latest Revised Licensing Policy, which was adopted by full Council on 4th December 2007

The Licensing Authority is able to grant the following types of licences:

Premises Licenses (for pubs, restaurants, theatres, hot fool establishments after 11pm)
Club Certificates (for qualifying members clubs, eg British Legions)
Personal Licenses
