Since 2000 Groundwork Wirral has operated on the whole of Wirral including all of the borough of Ellesmere Port and Neston. Based in Birkenhead with a satellite office at the Stanlaw Business Centre in Ellesmere Port, Groundwork Wirral is part of the national Groundwork organisation. It acts to bring about environmental improvement by working closely with communities including residents, businesses and voluntary groups. Groundwork Wirral has helped with the delivery of some important projects in the borough over the last six years including the improvment of parks and open spaces. The borough council is a key partner in the project and makes an annual funding contribution. The borough council is represented on the Groundwork Wirral Executive Board by Councillors Judy Pugh and Tony Walsh.
