The council has listened to this concern and are active in a variety of ways.
Did you know that we monitor air quality at 29 different locations?
The council monitors air quality with a variety of sophisticated instruments located across the whole borough.

Did you know we regulate the pollution to air from local industry?
The council, together with the Environment Agency, limits and encourages the reduction of pollution released to the air from local industry.
Did you know that there is a local Air Quality Forum?
A forum has been set up to tackle air quality. This Forum brings together all members of the community including, industry, environmental groups, health groups, local government and local residents. See AQ Bulletin-02
We investigate air quality complaints:-
The council, together with the Environment Agency, investigate air quality complaints for smoke, odours and other air pollution.
Did you know the council is reviewing air quality for the future?
The council is looking to the future to make sure that new roads, industry and buildings do not cause future air quality problems.
An initial detailed review was completed in June 2001 (see AQ Bulletin-05), the review process continues and an update will be completed by December 2003.
Air pollution is not restricted to local sources. It travels with the wind over long distances. The council acts with partners in the North West to tackle air pollution nationwide.
