EPNBC's Contaminated Land Strategy was published in 2001. Within the borough there are a large number of industrial sites including an oil refinery and associated petro-chemical complex, a car assembly plant and a chemical waste incinerator. The legacy of the industrial past has resulted in the contamination of sites from the industrial land use and disposal of associated wastes. The strategy exists to provide a framework for the identification, investigation and remediation of contaminated sites within the district under Part 2A. The Strategy is currently under review and following consultation in 2007, will be available on this site.
