The Pioneers statue celebrates the canal builders who founded Ellesmere Port and was cast in bronze by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent.
Local councillors, consumer organisations and members of the food trade, together with the Environmental Protection Unit have worked to produce a Food Safety and Customer Care Award which is available to all food establishments within the borough.
The scheme is designed to give recognition to all businesses which operate to a high standard of food hygiene and safety, and have a positive approach to customer care. Many of the criteria are those which businesses already meet as a legal requirement, however there are additional standards which demonstrate a commitment beyond that required by law.
A certificate and window sticker is presented on an annual basis to those businesses that receive the award. Businesses also benefit from local publicity.
