General grant conditions and anti-fraud measures applicable to all applicants

All forms of financial assistance are subject to a number of general conditions.  The council will set out in writing to each person being provided with assistance, confirmation of the terms and conditions.

Applying for Financial Assistance


Making an Enquiry

The administration of financial assistance is undertaken by the council's Private Housing Renewal Unit located at:

However, initial enquiries regarding financial assistance can also be made at any of the following locations:

Information leaflets setting out a summary of the types of assistance will be available at all of the above locations and via the council's website.  This will include details of availability, eligibility criteria, levels of assistance and any conditions that apply.

On request the Private Housing Renewal Unit will issue enquirers with the appropriate grant information pack, including a letter explaining the application procedure.  For those wishing to apply for a Home Security Grant or Energy Efficiency Grant, the pack will include the appropriate application form and details of what information must be submitted with their application.

Arrangements for applications for assistance falling outside of the stated policy are as follows:-

The Private Sector Housing Renewal policy will be a primary consideration in deciding on applications for assistance, all applications will be considered on an individual basis and the merits of each case taken into account. The council will not refuse to consider a case that falls outside the stated policy.

There will always be exceptional cases and they will be considered by a working group who will review and recommend a course of action to be dealt with under the delegated powers of the Director for Housing & Development Services in consultation with the Chair of the Housing Committee.
