April 6 2008 will see biggest change to the planning system in recent years and a significant step forward in simplifying the planning system.
The Government is changing the way in which planning applications are to be submitted. Between now and the 6 April 2008 there will be a phased roll out of the 1 APP project which introduces a new set of planning applications forms for National use.
The government is launching a standard planning application form in England. The standard planning application form, 1APP, will replace all existing types of planning application forms.
We will make the new forms available for use from 3rd December 2007, although we will continue to accept the old forms until 6 April 2008.
After 6 April 2008 the standard application form, 1APP, will become the only legal way of submitting a planning application within England.
Currently local councils each produce their own planning application forms. The forms can differ dramatically - an inconsistency in the planning process which often leads to confusion.
1APP will end these discrepancies by ensuring the same information will be requested by every council in England.
This will make the planning system clearer for planning professionals and citizens alike. Completing and submitting applications should be quicker and easier. Citizens will benefit from clear, national guidance resulting in a more transparent planning system.
We will make the standard planning application form available online via the Planning Portal as well as in a paper format.
Important note
Any planning applications submitted to us on or after 6 April 2008 must be submitted using the standard application form. If you have a draft application on Camden Planning Online or the Planning Portal you must submit it before 6 April 2008.
