The Pioneers statue celebrates the canal builders who founded Ellesmere Port and was cast in bronze by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent.

A number of documents were prepared pre-2004 which provide guidance on specific planning topics. These guidelines can be material considerations when the council determines planning applications. In addition there are a number of development briefs and conservation area character appraisals that can also be material considerations.
Designing Out Crime
These guidelines supplement policy GEN5 of the adopted borough local plan.
They provide detailed guidance for developers illustrating how attention to landscaping, layout, design of buildings and lighting at the design stage can discourage crime in all new developments.

Infill Plots
'Infill plots' are small plots in the urban areas of the district. They can provide useful additional housing without threatening the green belt, but the privacy and amenity of existing residents must be retained.
The guidelines for using Infill Plots are relevant to developers and also anyone worried about the prospect of housing development near their home. They give advice on matters such as making sure new houses fit with the character of an area, avoiding overlooking and loss of privacy, access for vehicles, trees and landscaping, garden size, drainage and security.
